MASKANOO FESTIVAL

Maskanoo, the Turks and Caicos Islands' largest annual event, comes to life every Boxing Day, the day following Christmas. This celebration, rooted in the islands' rich history and distinctive culture, commemorates the West African and Caribbean heritage shaped by 19th-century slaves who, in celebrating Christmas, parodied the elaborate costume balls of the wealthy. Maskanoo, a fusion of "Mas" or Carnival and Junkanoo, takes place in Grace Bay on Providenciales island, featuring cowbell sounds, lively revelers, cultural activities, music, and vendors offering local authentic cuisine and beverages. The festivities culminate in a stunning fireworks display to conclude the night.
